Chugwater K9 Classic

The Chugwater K9 Classic is a dog-friendly event featuring a half marathon, 10K, and 5K. Nestled in the valley, the Chugwater K9 Classic starts on Iron Mountain Road and ends at Chugwater School. The elevation profile shows the course as downhill, but it will feel more flat than downhill. The first 5.2 miles of the half marathon course is hardpack/gravel road. The remaining 7.9 miles are asphalt.The 10k and 5k courses are all asphalt.

Upon completion of the race, WY Running encourages all participants to partake in the festival. The festival will feature a 205′ long mobile zip line, mobile ropes course, demonstration, vendor booths, food trucks, and more.

The awards ceremony will take place in Staats Park at 9:30 am. Prizes will be awarded based on gun time.

Chugwater is a small town with a big heart! Although the town only has 212 people, it is steeped in a rich history.

Legend has it that Dreamer, the son of a Mandan tribe chieftain, was ordered to lead a hunting party. Dreamer had the hunters drive the buffalo off of the chalk cliffs. When the buffalo hit the ground or fell into the water below, they would make a “chugging” sound. Native Americans began calling the area “water at the place where the buffalo chug.” Whites called the area “Chug Springs” which eventually evolved into “Chugwater.”
