The Brighton Marathon Weekend is an exciting three-day running event in one of Britain’s most cosmopolitan cities, comprising The Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens Mini Mile Races on the Saturday, the BM10k and Brighton Marathon races on the Sunday and the Event Village on Brighton beach, which is open Friday–Sunday.
This is an event for the whole family with something for everyone of all ages and abilities.
The participant fields for all three races grow every year while over 150,000 spectators take to the city streets to show their support and cheer the marathon and 10k runners on, on Race Day.
The Brighton Marathon was founded by former international athlete Tim Hutchings and by former Brighton club athlete, Tom Naylor. The event is organised by the Grounded Events Company ltd. The first running of the race took place on 18th April 2010.
Since its inauguration, the Brighton Marathon has dramatically developed to become the Brighton Marathon Weekend.
The course bests for the men and women are well under 2hrs 10min and 2:29, making it the second fastest marathon in the UK. It is also the second largest marathon in the UK and twelfth largest in Europe.
In 2014, the super-fast BM10k was added to the weekend schedule and immediately stamped its importance on the rankings with the second fastest time in the country that year.
The race starts from the same start as the Brighton Marathon in Preston Park, just 45 minutes beforehand at 8.30am. The course is fast and flat, taking participants through the city centre and finishing at the same finish as the marathon on Madeira Drive.
Children aged 7-17 can get involved with the Brighton Marathon Weekend and run a 1 mile course at Preston Park in these age-related races. Taking place the day before the Brighton Marathon and BM10k, they too can experience all the fun and atmosphere of the Brighton Marathon Weekend.
There is also entertainment and activities in the Mini Mile Village, where families can enjoy food, drink and an array of fun activities to do together such as zorbing and obstacle courses.
Children can also help fundraise for title sponsor Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens to raise money for research into cancers affecting children, teens and young adults.
