Overall Rating: Race production was good. Trail running is a different animal and a different crowd with different expectations, so…they didn’t have the size shirt I ordered (bad), the race started right on time and was well marked (good), fed my wife and two of my kids after the race (great), aid stations were a long way between (normal), packet pickup was extremely easy (good). All in all more good than bad.
Course Difficulty: Rolling hills with lots of little land mines, a few water spots to cross (your feet will get wet), some wooden planks to traverse, some sand to run on.
Course Scenery: It was decent. A lot of running through previously prescribed burns, pine forests, along a river, and through marshes. I definitely didn’t get bored because there was nothing to look at.
Race Production: Good. Aid station were about 4-5 miles between, but were well stocked, and had great people working them.
Race Swag: Woodallions were not bad, but I always prefer metal (just personal preference), and as I mentioned earlier, they didn’t have the size shirt I ordered…bummer.
My Performance: This was a hard run. It was advertised as a good entry trail ultra, but in my experience, it was quite a bit beyond that. I suspect the weather (lots of previous rain) and the 80+ degree weather and high humidity had a lot to do with it.
Tough run...
