The Beyond the Beach Marathon & Half Marathon along the shores of Lake Michigan is a Boston Qualifying event. We have dropped this event into the first week of October because we want you to run in cooler weather. Our first few years in September have reached the 80 degree mark and it’s just too hot to run a qualifying race in those temperatures. Thus, we want to give you a better chance to qualify for Boston. We have been voted the most gorgeous race in Indiana by the fine people at Health.com.
So who wants to be a part of a most scenic run around. This course is 90 percent pavement. There is no sand on this course. You will, however, run on the paved trails which run along the scenic beach and around the dunes to help make this a most scenic course. The course will also take you through parts of the Dunes National Forest when you run on the Marquette Trail.
Join us in this awesome marathon that starts and finishes along the beaches of Lake Michigan located in Marquette Beach Park. Marquette Park is completely surrounded by Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Also, this beach area has the awesome Chicago skyline in view. This Boston Qualifying course is held on the streets of Miller Beach area.
The marathon is a double loop of the half marathon course. We have added a 5K run to this event as well.
There will be water stops about every 1.5 miles. Water stations will consist of water and Gatorade.
The event will be chip timed for fast and accurate results. There will be overall awards and five year age group awards.
All finishers will receive a unique finishers medal.
