There are no boundaries at Pathfinder Ranch, one of Southern California’s premier educational sleep away camps! Push beyond your perceived limits on 72 private acres of Wildlife Preserve and surrounding forest meadows situated south of Palm Springs in the San Jacinto Mountains at a comfortable altitude of 4,500 feet. The Beyond Limits Ultra has established itself as one of the most unique ultra events in the southwest.
What makes this two mile loop event so unique? How about a big runner sleepover where runners sleep on-site, only feet away from the course, in bunk style heated cabins with hot showers. Multi-day races are hard enough, so why not skip the frost covered frozen tent and take your breaks in comfortable warmth. In addition to running, you’ll be reliving your camping youth as you and your fellow runners and crew enjoy mixing it up with the farm animals and horses, canoeing around the lake, climbing the ropes course, and of course making s’mores by the campfire. Did we mention the course meanders all through the ranch where you can keep yourself pleasantly distracted by watching crew and friends enjoy camp activities as you click-off mile after mile. While we are known for having a top of the line aid station, we will be augmenting our daily offerings this year by having Pathfinder’s culinary team deliver a catered breakfast and diner to the aide station every day. Not to worry, we will still be cooking up lunch, as well as on-demand meals and our own unique goodies like frozen grapes and popsicles. Whether you are running the 72/48/24 hour races, or the 100 mile, 50 mile, or 50K races, you will be treated like a VIP by your fellow ultra running RD’s and their incredible volunteers.
And by the way, if you happen to love race bling, this event is for you! Every runner who toes the starting line receives a large medal, along with a high-end sublimated tech shirt and a goodie bag stuffed full of fun stuff. Everyone who completes 100 miles or more, in ANY race, receives a newly designed 100 mile buckle, while 200+ mile finishers will receive a 200 mile buckle.
The 100 mile race now has a 35 hour time limit, while the 50K and 50 mile races have an 18 hour time limit. If your focus is to earn a 100-mile buckle and you are concerned about not achieving your goal within the 100-mile race time limit of 35 hours, eliminate unnecessary stress and enter the 48 or 72 hour races.

The Beyond Limits Ultra is a series of races at the Pathfinder Ranch in the mountains near Idyllwild. The longest distance is the 100 miler and the shortest is the marathon. The course consists of a 2 mile loop that is repeated until you achieve your distance.
The loop was actually quite nice with different terrain. There was a section around the pond, a sandy section, a paved section (or dirt shoulder if you want), and a very pretty forest section. The course was flat but overall it was at 4,500 ft so elevation was an issue for some people. There were bathrooms and showers all over the course which is always a good thing. There was one aid station that was well stocked and manned. Plus lots of spots to set up your own table which many runners did.
Many people spent the night in the cabins at the Ranch. Breakfast was provided in the dining hall so you could gather with the other runners before the race. Food was available during the race along with water and sports drink. They even had an ice bucket to dip your hats and bandanas into.
This was a very well run race. The race directors clearly are runners themselves and know how to organize a race like this. The looped course might seem boring but it gives you a chance to see other runners many times. You can support them, and get support in turn from them.
