The Barossa Marathon Festival is held every year starting in the scenic vineyard-surrounded Tanunda. The event attracts runners from right across the world, wanting to challenge their fitness levels in the marathon (42.2km), half marathon (21.1km), 10km and 5km events. The course is very flat, perfect for those wanting a quick time or ‘personal best’.
The Jacob’s Creek Barossa Marathon is put on by the South Australian Road Runners Club. The course begins with participants heading eastwards to Light Pass Rd and then south to Bethany before heading back up to Magnolia St via Menge Rd. They then do an out and back section that takes them down Murray St to Bridge St and back northwards through the Richmond Grove winery and then on the bikeway towards Nuriootpa where they turn around. Once they follow their trail back to Magnolia St, they join the half marathon course, but turn back earlier just before Stockwell Rd.
The Festival is also Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) certified, meaning the event can be used to get a qualifying time for other international AIMS events, including Boston Marathon. Feel the landscape. Meet the people. Experience the Barossa.
