Join Bay Area Runners Club and Presenting Sponsor Jolt Credit Union at the annual running of the Bay City St. Patrick’s Day Races – named by Runner’s World as one of America’s stellar St. Patrick’s Day runs.
Affordable, fun St. Patrick’s Day weekend events for the family include a Race Expo presented by Covenant HealthCare, Leprechaun Races for the kids presented by LeBourdais Orthodontics, 5K Run, 5K Walk, 8K Run and Irish Double events. Great shirts, awesome finisher medals and outstanding overall and age group awards are standard for this event that’s seen nearly 7,000 participants in recent years.
Bay Area Runners Club is proud to have donated over $240,000 in proceeds from these races to local charities, non-profits and high school athletic programs over the years. This year’s event will once again benefit many local recipients but the primary beneficiaries will be the Bay Area Women’s Center and Girls on the Run Great Lakes Bay.
The Irish Double will be a stand alone event with limited participation. Irish Double participants will receive an Irish Double Finisher hoody and 4” finisher medal. There will be overall awards 3 deep for male & female participants and age group awards in 10 year spans.

Bay City has the biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations around, and the BARC races are a huge draw. 2023 was their 50th year, so it was definitely a good time to come take part.
I did the Irish Double, which is the 8K followed an hour later by a 5K. Since I had a long run scheduled for my marathon buildup, I just kept going in between events and made sure to come back to the 5K start in time. The 5K was delayed a bit due to so many people still needing to get their bibs, and I heard this was an issue in years past. The extra time in the corral just was more time to fellowship with the other runners I knew who also made this part of their running calendar. I did well enough to earn an age-group Leprechaun bobblehead prize–one that looks mighty fine in my display back home!
