The AthHalf packs all that Athens has to offer into exciting half marathon and 5K courses! The half marathon course includes a run through Athens’ historic districts, downtown, and the UGA campus, with local Athens bands performing live throughout the course. The 5K course explores downtown Athens and the Boulevard neighborhood with a live band at the start and finish line to help you celebrate your accomplishment. Athens residents come out in force to cheer on and entertain runners along the way, adding to the fun energy of these popular events.
The AthHalf is produced annually by the nonprofit organization, AthFest Educates, and race proceeds support our mission of funding high-quality music and arts education programming for local K – 12 youth. When you run the AthHalf, you are directly impacting a child’s access to music and the arts.

This race was really well put on!! There were so many road crossings manned by volunteers and police officers, it was pretty impressive! It is quite hilly, but not unbearably so. You get to run in Sanford Stadium and you are on the jumbotron as you’re running. Really cool!! And the finisher medal is fabulous!! Definitely glad we found this race, and highly recommend it!!

2019 was my second time running the AthHalf. The first half of the race is fantastic! You run through the older neighborhoods in Athens and the hills aren’t bad at all. At 9 miles, though, you get to Ag Hill. It’s tough. It kicked my butt and I walked most of it. Once you peak Ag Hill and get to Sanford, the race gets fun again. Crossing the bridge over the stadium is fun and the lap around the football field before the finish is cool. Bands and people cheering all over the course make this a great race.
