Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run

The legendary Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run started back in 1986. One of the original five 100 milers. AC100 has strived to keep the race’s original point-to-point course from Wrightwood to Altadena largely intact while preserving its level of difficulty. It’s one of only 6 point-to-point 100-mile runs in the country. You’ll traverse 100 miles of San Gabriel mountains from elevations of 1,135 to 9,300 feet.

The San Gabriel back country retains much of the natural beauty, if not the primitive wilderness of yesteryear. Thanks largely to the foresight and capable supervision of the U.S. Forest Service and hundreds of volunteers. Picnic areas and campgrounds have been constructed with minimum displacement of the natural setting.

Those desiring to see this primitive wilderness in a single day are invited to participate in the Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run.

The Race finishes at Loma Alta Park, which replaces the Johnson Field location. The overall distance is still the same. The initial Cooper Canyon section has been temporarily replaced by a road section awaiting the outcome of an Environmental Impact Report regarding the Yellow Legged Frog. In 1996, a scenic PCT trail section replaced the “death-march” road climb out of Cooper Canyon. A short (.85 mile) trail section overlooking Sulfur Springs replaced an asphalt grade. In 1999 the AC100 Trail Volunteers built the “Winton Bypass” below Manzanita Ridge on Mt. Wilson, replacing a 16% grade ridge-run. Everything else is the same as it was for the first 37 finishers in 1986.
