Anyone considering this race seriously needs to get sand gaiters. This is my 3rd time running this race, and I still underestimated the energy it takes to plod through the sand. It is helpful to have trekking poles, especially if you’ve never climbed or run on slick rock. Spectacular views, awesome volunteers, well run race. I’m already thinking about next year to improve my time.
