The hills were no joke, so be prepared! The scenery is stunning, with lots of views out to the water. Everyone volunteering was wonderful. Lots of water, gels, etc at the aid stations (the gels are only available in the second half). My primary complaint is that the roads in the later part of the marathon were not closed, so we had to run on the sidewalk. This was frustrating because many participants were walking and i had to figure out how to pass. Between the killer hills and cars, I wouldn’t do this one again, personally. But if you are running a marathon in each state, i doubt you’d find a prettier one in Maine!

I really enjoyed this half! It was largely downhill, along a scenic river. It wasnt in any national park but along the border of Arches. If you are a national park fan, this race puts you in a great area to see Arches and Canyonlands when you arent running. Just dont do what I did and hike 6 hours on the day before the race. My legs were so tired on race day (oops lol)

I would highly recommend this race to all runner/adventurers! I found it to be very well organized, plenty of communication from the organization, and I felt very safe on race day. The scenery is epic. I cannot imagine a more beautiful run. The aid stations had water, isotonic drink, orange wedges, banana halves, chocolate, and puffed rice energy bars. The roads were mostly empty except for a few vehicles that seemed to be associated with the race (they cheered on everyone they passed too). There were photographers stationed at various points and at the finish line was basically a big party- we got free pasta but could purchase lots of other foods/drinks. The race is pricey but I think it is worth it. I absolutely loved it, highly recommend it, and would go back every year if it weren’t so expensive to get to the southern tip of South America!

The course was described as “New England Hilly” and it was much more “hilly” than I was expecting. I am from a part of New England with very few hills, and many of the other participants were equally surprised by the difficulty of the hills. I would say that many aspects of the race were pretty normal- the aid stations offered water or gatoraid. The tshirts were bright yellow with an uncolored print of the monkey head that is the logo. There was plenty of parking. The scenery was just local streets and a golf course. They had some sort of activities at the end with pizza, but things were winding down by the time I got there (I was not nearly the last person to finish). Overall I would say it is an ok race. I wouldn’t go again. But the price is alright and I’m sure some folks thought it was a good race.
