This is my second time running the Fargo Marathon. Both times the finish has been disappointing for slower runners. The bands are done around mile 14, and there are no beer, bananas, or chocolate milk at the finish line. In 2014, slower finishers (5:30/6:30) were stranded downtown because the shuttles quit. I’m fortunate because I’m from this area, and I learned my lesson after the first time to drive my own car. There were more than 100 people who finished after me, and I know it’s run by volunteers and people just want to be done, but seriously – if you keep a race open for 7 hours, you might want to have more than warm water and cold pizza squares at the finish. Or at least clean up the other stuff so we don’t know what we missed .
