There were 1000 people entered in this race and with spectators and 30 minutes out from the gun there were probably at least 250 people in line for ~15 portos (and that line never got shorter). There were only two potty stations along the course which were at approx mile 3 and 10. There were some random ones along the course which I saw people use, but it’s tough to have to count on that. ALL THAT SAID, it was a gorgeous course, it was well run, and the swag was really nice (free race pictures taken at the start, one mile mark, and finish!!). The course was very hilly; I’d describe it as constant rolling hills, with the extra loops done on the way back particularly hilly. It was a PR for me because I’d never run a half before, but I think if you’re looking for a course to PR at it is NOT this one. I had a blast (minus my obvious porta potty critique) and could recommend to anyone looking to have a good run on the coast.

Very solid low-scale 5k (GREAT vibes)

By low-scale, I mean there were only about 300ish people in the 5k. I thought that was the perfect amount for the amount of porta potties they had. I will say, it was not the most impressive course in terms of scenery, but downtown Amesbury is a very convenient location. For the cost of the race, I’d say the free shirt, free race pictures (there were 2 where I was in full view and maybe 5 where I was in the background), and a free beer at the finish was very worth it. The motto of the race was “enjoy your life” and I thought all the staff/volunteers did an amazing job keeping the vibes up despite the torrential downpour the whole morning. It was really nice. I’m not a super big fan of an out-and-back course for a 5k, but if you’re looking for a relatively flat course and good vibes, this race will serve you well.

REALLY enjoyed this road race

I ran in high school and college teams, but I had never done a road race before this. It was a little intimidating because of the reenactment of the battle of Lexington that morning, so there were people everywhere and the production was very spread out. Beware road closures and parking issues do to the reenactment! There was no map of available porta potties, but after running around for awhile and finding them, there were definitely enough for everyone. There were 1000 participants this year because of the anniversary of the battle, so I’m not sure how much this experience compares to a normal year. That said, the course was pretty great. There were absolutely some hills out there, but I’d say once you hit about halfway it was mostly downhill. The swag (shirt, bib, finisher certificate, and a medal) were really well designed and great quality. My one critique is that it would’ve been really nice to have race pictures. Overall, I had a great time, the course was challenging at times but had great water stops at every mile marker, and I would absolutely recommend this race.
