It’s a closed off island, so the course is “open” but limited traffic on the course. My 14 yo son was able to bike around the island freely to see me on the course and bring me snacks if I wanted them. It was a laid back day, and it is a friendly environment. I enjoyed it for my SC state, but I don’t know if I would travel to it again for it. Swag- long sleeved Tshirt for marathon. Medals were nice. They are large with the logo of Kiawah Island on them. My son and I also did the glow run 5K on the beach the night before, which was a BLAST!

The race start was chilly, and it took a bit of time to get through security and to get the waves started. The race was well organized once you got into the runner area. The course overlapped itself several times, and we looped around a park for a bit. There were more hills than I anticipated. I completed the half the day prior with my 14 yo son. The marathon the next day repeated a lot of the half. It was an all around good experience. dress warmly!

The boardwalk was interesting to run on for the race. Slightly unstable on certain planks, but we were right beside the beach. We went on the road for a bit through neighborhoods, but overall I thought it was a good representation of Atlantic City. I stayed at the host hotel, Bally’s. It was super convenient to just walk outside and be dumped right in front the start line. By far the EASIEST race logistics.

I don’t know what my deal was this marathon. I was just not feeling it. Nerves, lack of sleep, weather. I don’t know. I just did not do well, and I felt sick for most of it. My son and I traveled to Chicago, and it was easy to maneuver around the city. Expo was HUGE and packed. Lots of goodies there to choose from for race swag. The course winded through a lot of neighborhoods, but I felt like it was a blur for me. Very well supported with fans lining the street. It is large and very well run I thought.

It was at two-loop course, which I historically try to avoid due to monotony and lack of mental strength at miles 17-22. My son (13) was doing the half while I was doing the full, so we were able to see each other a few times while completing the loops. It is a pretty location, and we were by the water for a good part of it. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, small town feel, and the people. It’s my son’s favorite race location so far! We got a block of cheese for a medal, which was EXACTLY what I wanted to rep the state.

This was the year we swam more than we ran. Thunderstorms were a little unnerving while running on the steel bridges. There was standing water some areas of the course that we needed to wade through to get to the next section. It was sloppy, but it was not miserable. I cannot believe the crowds that were STILL out there passing out water, snacks, supplies while getting dumped on in the rain. We are running and keeping up our body heat, and they are just standing and cheering us on. That was a huge motivator for me. I felt like I was just trudging along, but my pace was better than I anticipated. My boys came out with me and did the 5K and 10K the day prior. It was overall a weekend we will remember forever. Definitely should be on your list of runs to do.

I came out with my son who did the 10K. It ended up being fairly hot during the course. It started out mild temps. I just was not thrilled with the scenery and the course. I felt like we were out in the hot sun way more than we needed to be without a lot of shaded areas for relief. I definitely got dehydrated and felt a little like death when I finished. It is a small race, so I did not have to walk too far to get back to hotel to rest. It was a nice area, and quaint. easy race logistics. Medals and shirts were middle of the road.

Iconic must do race. You line up in corrals based on your ability. There is planety of room and tons of crowd support. It is an early start in the city so traffic is a bit of a nightmare. I am local, and I get driven in to the start and dropped off by my husband. It has worked out well. Love going about the city on foot. great scenery and great environment.

What a lovely city to explore!! The hills were brutal, but for the breath taking scenery- absolutely worth it. The neighborhood crowd support really came out for the race. Lots of “drinks and snacks” to keep you going. My husband was doing the half, and I think he got a little tipsy. Definitely a fun atmosphere, and a fantastic way to explore.

I absolutely love running through the castle. Such a magical and special moment to share with 20K of my closest running friends. Disney races start early, but they end early so you can enjoy the rest of the day exploring the parks or the pools at your hotel. It is a great family friendly/first timer experience. I look forward to doing it every year now. Medals and swag are the BEST.

It was my very first time toe-ing the line for a marathon. Nerves were out of control. It was windy and cold. I started out too fast, and I definitely lost steam around mile 16 on a cold windy bridge where there was a station JUST for candy. I felt like it was MADE for me. Definitely the boost I needed. I burst into tears when I crossed the finish line. I was so proud of ME. I did it. I will keep doing it. I will always show up for myself, and I proved it. Such an amazing city. We got blankets as part of our swag, which was perfect at the finish line. It was so cold. Pizza and beer for snacks at the end!
