This is a trail half on dirt and 4×4 roads. This year there was a lot of rain so the ground was soggy and there were lots of puddles to navigate around. The race is a beautiful loop course. Parking was easy. There could have been more porta potties at the start.

I love running Vacation Races, they are beautiful courses in beautiful parts of the country. The Yosemite race is outisde Yosemite and is not as beautiful as Yosemite with granite walls and waterfalls and sequoia trees. Everyone had to shuttle to the race. I stayed in Bass Lake and shuttled from Bass Lake. The shuttle was suppose to pick us up at 4:20, but ended up arriving at 5am. We got to the race on time, but if the shuttle wasn’t going to pick us up at 4:20 it would have been nice to have a better time estimate so I could have slept longer.

It’s a nice run in the forest, down to Bass Lake, but there are many more races that have better scenery. The first five miles are on a dirt road that was pretty rocky, so watch your footing! Then there was a great downhill section and I had some fast times in this section which made up for the slower times on the road. Then once you get to Bass Lake it’s 3 miles to the finish. My husband parked about 1 mile away from the finish, which was the closest parking available, so we had a bit of a walk that back to the car. The spectator parking was not well marked in Bass Lake. There was no parking lot like noted in the race guide, not sure if they forgot to unlock the gate to access the dirt lot or what happened, but then all the spectators had to park on the side of the road which made parking difficult.

It’s a nice race, but there are more scenic races and races with better parking. The course was fast and mostly downhill which was nice. Love the rolling start of the race and wish all their races did this.

This was my first 50 mile race and a chose it because of the beautiful course and I was not disappointed. The course runs through 4 slot canyons, horseshoe bend and Page rim trail. The views are stunning. There is lots of sand, and some scrambling up and down rocks. There were big puddles in Waterholes Canyon that were too big to jump over and got our feet wet, but it was all part of the experience. This is a very scenic race that will challenge you!

This is a fast course, point to point race. You will take a bus to the start line. Warning, it will be early! Lots of porta potties this year and it wasn’t cold so no one had to huddle around the heat lamps. The start is amazing with fireworks!! It’s nice to run the first few miles in the dark, watch the sun rise and finish the race in Mesa. The food in the runners area is delicious, lots of people cheering you in at the finish and a really nice medal. Race shirt was not good this year, but in the past year it’s been amazing.

This race brings out lots of fast runners along with track and cross country groups. The course is flat and easy to follow. The shirt and medal are pancake theme. The pancakes by Ihop after the race are amazing! I run this run just to eat the pancakes after the race. I’m sure I gain calories doing this race!
