I did this race as I was looking for a Sunday race after the Mesa Half. There is the option for 5K or 10K or you can do both for the double stack challenge. I was initially thinking of doing the double stack challenge but realized I had a very early wake-up on Friday and Saturday so decided to sleep in and just do the 5K. Great choice as after injuring my back I’m not sure I could have gotten through both races. The race had good pre race communication. There is a race day packet pick-up but I got it Friday at Runner’s Den. It was efficient and included bib, a nice shirt and an IHOP coupon. It was only to local IHOP’s so I gave it to a running friend from the area. Race day morning was easy. It starts by a shopping center. There was plenty of parking. Race mostly well produced. The only production issue is there was no signs of where to line up by pace. This race tends to attract a lot of walkers and there were non-walkers who were walking the 5K because the previously did the 10K so the course was a bit congested and I had to navigate around people in the beginning. Otherwise production was good. It was a very boring course though. Even more boring than Mesa but as flat as possible. My Garmin had 7 feet of elevation gain. It was kind of T-shaped. There was a water station you passed twice. It ended at the park where it started. My finishing time was terrible as my back was killing me but I survived. There is a nice medal at the end. It is big but not too big and has a pancake design. The finish in the park is nice. There is a line for the pancakes but it moved efficiently. They had plates with pancakes and sausages and plates with just pancakes if you don’t eat meat. They had lots of toppings including strawberries and whipped cream. It was a yummy end. Overall this was a boring course but a fun event with fun swag and delicious pancakes. Would recommend if you are local or visiting the Phoenix area the weekend of the race.

The pancakes by Ihop after the race are amazing! I run this run just to eat the pancakes after the race. I’m sure I gain calories doing this race!

Great timing people that are so friendly and food at the end. Seems like one big social party for people that like to tun.
