This race was one of my all time favorite. Course was difficult with a hill to start and a climb up one final hill to the finish line. There was torrential rain and winds for the first 13 miles, then the sun came out and it was hot! The Blue Mile was humbling with a long line of soldiers killed in action, followed by a long line of Marines holding flags for us to run under..very emotional experience. I have run a good amount of marathons, but the struggle due to weather and course difficulty made this victory all the more meaningful! I would highly recommend it. Also, if you love swag- this race shirt, long sleeve half-zip, was amazing! The expo was great with lots of vendors. I was able to find street parking for $3 for the expo, and the Hyatt in Washington was awesome- the Metro was connected to it along for easy access to the race start and finish. Still in awe of the whole experience!

Small race, maybe 200 marathoners. Most of the crowd support is along the half marathon portion of the race. The views are gorgeous, you are in the hamptons and have water views. It was hot as heck though, probably 10 miles with no shade. They ran out of marathon medals which was disappointing. The swag is great though, fleece blanket this year, usually a tote bag, and a t-shirt. If they have leftover shirts from the previous year, then usually give those out too. I would do the half again, but not the full.

I chose this race for the mountain views. I went with my family and we stayed at the Sugarloaf Mountain in a condo, which was beautiful! The athlete pasta dinner was disappointing- the pasta was cold- in hindsight we should have made our own pasta meal in the condo. Race day was pouring rain but it was nice to have the shuttle to the start and there was a tent to stand under to keep dry. The course was open to traffic, which would have been ok if there was a safe shoulder to run in. The shoulder was broken up for most of the course and I had to run in the road among speeding cars and even some big rig trucks. This was a no frills race, which is ok, but I wouldn’t recommend it mostly because of the safety issues with the course.

Loved the quaint little town of Rehoboth..very artsy and lots of cute shops. The course was beautiful, scenic views along the shore. I did make a wrong turn at one point and had to stop and wait to ask which way to go. There was not enough support along the course and it was not well marked. The after party made up for it, though! Great music, dancing, and all the beer you can drink! I would do this one again!

You get bussed to the top of the mountain, where you get off the bus and see small groups of people huddled around the fire, sharing stories. Shortly thereafter the sun rises and the view in the dessert is breathtaking. Truly a spiritual experience you will never forget. You run down the mountain along trails, which is amazing too. Not a fan of running in the hot sun on the highway, but hey, it was worth it for the one of a kind race start! Would love to do this one again!

I trained for this January race in New York. Needless to say, most of my long training runs were in the brutal cold. Florida had record high temperatures the day of the marathon…reaching 97 degrees! Amazingly enough, I ran strong. What saved me was stopping to take pictures with all the characters, where I could cool off and have some fun. Truly a magical experience I will never forget!
