This was my second time running this race. They changed to add some bridges, which in turn added more hills to a rather rolling course. I always enjoy the production though. They do a good job of promotion and getting lots of people involved. It’s a two-loop course which is tough for marathoners doing the elevation twice. Nonetheless, I still think it’s the best race in the city! Great swag and city involvement. The course goes through some of the best parts of the city.

This is a small race, but well put-on. The most lacking pieces are spectators (out in the tough marathon miles it is pretty desolate) and the year I ran, they had an issue with shirts so we all ended up with a generic cotton-which is just unfortunate. The course is pretty smooth! From someone who lives here, the sights are okay, but nothing crazy scenic. The bridges are nice, but the routes stay away from most of downtown. The outer section is not necessarily great to look at.

Race conditions were less than ideal. A tornado went through town the night before, but I still think communication and logistics could have been more thought out. It seemed like there was no back-up plan. The start was delayed, communication was sporadic and largely unhelpful. The half and 5K ended up starting at the same time, which I know isn’t a big deal. But the beginning of a race is always so crowded and with the weather & extra runners, I wish they would’ve stuck to a staggered start for pacing sake. Things I liked: the course through downtown was awesome. The shirts were great! I LOVED the hype for King & Queen of the hill. As someone who doesn’t like hills, I ran the whole thing with all the excitement.
