The Course
47 °F at the gun, 50 °F by the finish. Perfect crisp New England bite. Early miles throw a polite little wake-up hill, then it flattens out like a pancake. Net gain is basically nothing, so PR hunters rejoice.
Scenery?
Mid. You’ll see some water, some trees, some “eh.” Two out-and-backs, including one long soul-searcher. Hate ’em or tolerate ’em, they’re here. Not a deal-breaker, just don’t expect Instagram gold.
Logistics & Swag
Day-of packet pickup = painless. Street parking everywhere; no lot stress. Porta-potties aplenty at start and scattered throughout the course (rare W). Pace corrals clearly marked, gun went off on time.
Swag:
Hooded sweatshirt with clean screen-print (wearable, not landfill). Medal is Millennium Running’s usual sharp work. Classy, not clunky.
Aid Stations
Water + Gatorade every mile-ish. One station tried to hand me Gu chews; hard pass. Volunteers were caffeinated and loud. Exactly what you need at mile 9 when your brain is oatmeal.
Vibe & Support
Live band at the start/finish with Michael Bernier (Enjoy Your Life guy) on the mic. Kept the energy high without being annoying. Course spectators were sparse but enthusiastic; 47 °F probably scared the casuals indoors. Final quarter-mile, though? Crowd funnel gave me rocket fuel for the kick.
Post-Race
Free pizza (hot, greasy, glorious). Standard banana/granola/water lineup. Beer ticket = pint of local craft (redeemed immediately). Vendor samples + photo backdrop with instant digital results screen.
Photographers throughout the course and at the finish; post-race email dropped a personal finish-line YouTube clip that starts exactly when I lumber across. Watching yourself suffer in 4K is weirdly motivating.
Who Should Run It
Beginners: forgiving course, great support.
PR chasers: flat, fast, low-excuse layout.
Scenery snobs: look elsewhere.
Bottom Line
I’d toe the line again if I needed an October half, but I’m not rearranging my calendar for it. Zero disasters, one big PR, and a hoodie I’ll actually wear. If you want low-frills execution with a side of fall vibes, lace up. Just don’t blame me for the out-and-backs.

I went from couch to marathon in 8 months, and to be honest if it wasn’t for the amazing crowd support, well run aid stations, and comradery amongst the other runners, I don’t think I would have made it past mile 20 when I hit the wall. That being said, I am a USMC veteran so this experience had an even greater meaning to me.
