You are absolutely surrounded by lush greenery the whole time! Since the trees are so tall, you are shaded for probably 90% of the race, which is a huge plus: no need to worry about becoming overheated! About half of the course is not paved, but I wouldn’t say that it is technical. There is a significant downhill spot on gravel, which could be tricky for some people who are afraid of slipping, but I had no problems. There is a cute little river crossing around mile 6 with a narrow “bridge” that goes across. LOVED this race! And got a personal best!

An easy road race in a absolutely stunning location that would be perfect for a first time half marathoner! Lots of aid stations with great products (Honey Stinger gels and Gnarly Hydrate), and I love that the race is cup-less! It keeps the race beautiful.

The first half of the race is trail and you are surrounded by desert landscape including saguaro cactus–so beautiful! The trail is relatively easy but there are rolling hills and a few lose rocks to watch out for. The second part of the race is road, and it is a little hillier but not super hard.
