Day 1 : It was a cool and chilly morning. The race parking is in a reservoir park. Then walk for 0.25 mile to start and finish. The course was to run 1.25 mile out and 1.25 mile back to one side and then run about 2 miles out and 2 miles back the other side. There are multiple hills on this course, so you are basically going to run them 8 times. One aid station was set up at the start/finish where there was fresh cooked food and water to fuel up with. A nice t shirt and a small medal in the shape of the state of Vermont.

Day 2 : I didn’t realize we would be running on a paved trail course on the second day. Weather was a bit cool in the morning. Only about 50 marathon runners and 30 half marathoners. The course takes the runner out of the park for about 0.6 mile out and 0.6 mile back into the park and then run 5 miles loop 5 times in the park. There’s aid station at start and finish and one also around 2.5 miles out. There’s one turn where there’s a 4 way intersection, so pay attention to the signs on the ground to avoid going the run direction. A nice series t shirt to the new runners and a small medal in the shape of the state of New Hampshire.

Day 1 : This is the first time I’ve tried to run 6 full marathons in 6 days. It was a brisk morning and I felt good, thus I went for it and tried to run my hardest knowing I would taper the remaining 5 days. There was about 50 marathon runners and similar numbers for the half marathoners. The course was run around a very scenic lake. 7 laps of 3.6 miles loops plus about 0.6 mile out and 0.7 mile back. Packet pick up and aid station was set up at the start/finish where there was lots of fresh cooked food and water to fuel up with. A nice t shirt and a small medal in the shape of the state of Maine. Would consider going back again.

This race is very scenic as runners get to go over the Ambassador bridge from Detroit into Windsor and return back to Detroit via the Tunnel bridge. The road condition can be better as many are run over hard concrete and with lots of cracks and pot holes. View is breath taking looking over the Detroit river on both sides of the border. There are many fuel stations along the course and volunteers are wonderful. Running in the tunnel is quite humid, so be prepared and head winds that gusts over 25 MPH makes running extremely difficult.

The race starts by the waterfront. Then, it goes into the downtown buildings. The signals will throw off your GPS watches on multiple occasions and almost everyone will end up with an extra mile on their watches. Course is flat for the most part, but does have quite a few bridges to run over and some are over metal that are covered with carpets. There’s quite a number of pot holes, so need to watch out for the footing. Medal is great and post race beer and food are wonderful.

Berlin is definitely the fastest and flattest course in the world. There’s only 2 baby bridges to go over in the first half of the race, and rest is pretty flat. It’s a world class event, with a massive expo and organization is near perfect. The race is crowded and some runners will push others out of the way at the water station to grab liquids and some runners will simply bump you as they try to pass as opposed to a friendly heads up. The course is very scenic and you see many of the key sight seeing destinations in Berlin with the start and finish near the Victory Column and Brandenburg Gate.

The course starts indoors, so signal may not be accurate right of the bat, but it’s a fairly flat course with a few minor hills. Crowd support is nice and there’s just enough water and aid stations on the course. Swag comes with a nice long sleeve shirt and medal is pretty good as well.

This is a very smooth and fast course with limited number of hills. However, there are several stretches that are extremely windy, especially the last 15Km or so by the Lake shore. Post race food could be better than just morning rounds and apples. A hearty soup would be nice. Bags are left on the ground, so if it is raining, be sure to put your change of clothes in a plastic bag before putting into your knapsack or bag.
