This was my second marathon and I thought it was really well run. The course itself was really beautiful and highlighted really nice parts of the city – beautiful neighborhoods, a lovely bike path through the woods, downtown, Gray’s Lake, and the Drake campus (running through the stadium was a highlight). The afterparty was a lot of fun too, and everyone was really positive and encouraging. Maybe what made it stand out the most was the course support – consistent spectators throughout the whole thing (except the bike path in the woods), and biking “mobile support” for both conversation/moral support and first aid if you need it.
Stuff that could use improvements: biggest thing is the tracking app. My family had problems using it and the runner location feature was generally off. The app was buggy on my phone and accidentally followed hundreds of relay teams (?) which was annoying. That’s it! Otherwise smooth. Would totally run this again.

I ran the half marathon and camped out the night before. This was my second trail race. It was not my “A race” for the fall season and I think many people were treating it as a training race for other full stuff.
The race organizers really fostered a sense of community. There were maybe ten of us out camping the night before and we had a fun time chatting.
The race itself was run from a sense of community love – definitely informal and definitely fun. Details were communicated smoothly. The course itself was pretty, muddy, and humid. I had a fun time.
Worth noting is that due to a last-minute course change (maybe because of mud?), we ran something like 12.9 miles instead of the full 13.1. Didn’t bother me but just FYI.

This race was well-organized. It has a surprising amount of hills, with the hardest being around the 12 mile mark (end of half marathon), around the 18 mile mark (Dean Keaton), and a soul-crushing one at the very end (right around the 26 mile mark). The music along the course is fun, and the aid stations are well-run. I had a lot of fun running this surrounded by thousands of positive people.

This was an epic race in the most beautiful part of Texas. I’d totally recommend it.
Pros: 11/10 scenery. Beautiful weather. Great swag (love the shirt and the “medal” is hand-made and beautiful). Nice, helpful people.
Cons: pasta dinner the night before seemed like it was going to be a social event, but it was not at all. Just a bar that was hard to get a seat at with an option to pay for some basic pasta – not an actual “event”. Other big con was that it was poorly marked. I know with trail races that you have to “be alert”, but I was running the 30k and a volunteer at an aid station/fork told me to follow the wrong road, so I ran an extra six miles along the 50k route (until the next aid station). Many other 30k runners had this exact problem, which was very frustrating.

All in all, would totally run this again, and the scenery and friendly folks made it an excellent race.
