The bib pick up was smooth and plenty of free parking. Race day parking was easy to find. Port a potty lines moved quickly despite looking long in a single file. Start of the race was easy to access. Pacers were fantastic. I followed the 4:45 pacers but started moving ahead. I could hear their cheers which helped me stay with my pace. Volunteers were everywhere and ready with water. Bathrooms were at every two miles. Part of the course were gravel (around halfway) . But it was only for about a mile. The runners were spread out so not crowded. The medal was amazing! Runners were respectful of the neighborhood streets. I noticed no trashed gels on the streets. It did get warm midday. The race had mostly runners and hardly any runners. I ended up with PB and third in my age group. The race participants doubled this year to a little under 1000. Definitely a Boston qualifier.

This was my fourth marathon. So in marathon word, I am a newbie.
— Getting to the expo was a mess. Trains did not run on time and one I was one had to return to the station I transferred it from. Ended up walking 40 minutes to the expo. Missed my pick up time but then it really didn’t matter what time you got there because no one checked. Merchandise was not as varied as NYC or London. I ended up going to Addidas flagship store for better selection.
— The race forecast was for mid 70’s Fahrenheit and peaking at upper 70’s. Had to deal with full sun and little shade and humidity. My starting time was 10:10 am.
— The water stations were crowded. Plastic cups thrown all over the ground doesn’t allow you to resume your speed. Basically, one had to walk out of the water stop in order not to fall and get injured.
— Course is flat and if there was one elevation around mile 16, it was not significant. Didn’t feel it at all.
— Had to adjust my expectations to just finishing considering the weather and having to stop for water, fill my handheld and pour water over my head.
This was my slowest race and glad it was over.
Having done Berlin Half and Full, I can cross it off my list.
Expecting a PR at this race was not an option even though I wanted it so bad. Finishing was a win.

Be prepared to swerve around plenty of walkers. Race starts pretty late in the morning. Water stations are every three miles which is not enough on a warm day. Got tripped by another runner early in the race but got up and kept going. The finish line is not crazy full of crowds like other races. Course is fairly flat compared to other majors. It felt like the crowds came out around Mile 20 and after.

The race is well organized and monitored by the staff and volunteers. I enjoyed every mile of it except for the Queensboro Bridge. Make sure to practice gradual long inclines in your training as there are two big ones.
Crowds are INCREDIBLE at every mile and borough. No need for even a water bottle. Every mile after three had water and gatorade. SIS gels were available at mile 12 and 18. The signs from the crowds were entertaining. It is a bucket list item for me and I am already considering doing it again. Weather was 10/10. Low 50’s.

I knew race had hills but it didn’t come until mile 10. Rest were rolling hills. First mile was in the rain and then it tapered off to off and on. I had to be careful especially going downhills. At some parts of the race, it was crowded and difficult to push ahead. Mike 10-12 was an uphill that doesn’t seem to end until 13 where you pick up to the finish. I wish they had more port-o-potties along the course and volunteers with the drinks. Medal is really awesome and worth the run. I wasn’t focused on my time knowing it is rainy and hilly. Nevertheless, the less am glad I did it.

A fairly flat course with plenty of room to run. Not so crowded. Water station every mile which was great. I was well until mile 20 where I hit the wall. Pushed through till the finish. Crowd was great. The after party was the best. Live band and people having a good time. I would definitely run this again.
