Looking for a great 1st or 20th marathon, this is it. Huge race that is well organized with big expo and swag. Course has excellent support and many spectators throughout, especially in the last quarter of the marathon where you need it. Mile 21 has a party zone which was fun. Aid stations were every mile and well stocked. Volunteer turnout was unbelievable! The whole city turns up for this race, even in terrible weather.

The course has 1 big climb from mile 6.5.to 7.5 but only small ones after that. Not that difficult.

2023 weather has thunderstorms and downpours but they kept the race going. As someone who travelled and spent a bit on hotels/gas I greatly appreciate the directors choosing to keep the race on.

10/10 would recommend.

As someone living in the midwest its a struggle to find 70.3 that isnt a 7+ hour drive. Super happy to have Memphis as an option now. City is great for a weekend getaway. Great BBQ and plenty to do.

Ironman races are usually well organized so no compliants there.

The swim, transition, and run are all within Shelby Park. Swim is a small lake so expect it to be murky. I loved the run bc its two loops in the park so lots of crowd support. It allowed me see my family like 3 times on the run. Part of the run is tree covered and part in the sun. Maybe 1 hill but mostly flat. Its an October race so expect humidity.

Bike was fine, nothing special. Majority of the bike course is quiet as you ride out to more rural/less dense area.

Only peeve of this race is bc its in the park is hard for your family/spectators to leave. I wish they would have food trucks or something there for the race.
