I really enjoyed the Jersey City Marathon, but I’m unsure if I would do it again. The course was super flat. At one point some guys behind me were talking about a hill, and I “missed” it, meaning there was barely a hill! Amazing! The roads were a bit rough. I was paying attention to my footing especially during the first 6 miles or so when it was so crowded that I could not see my footing ahead of me. There were also a lot of turns on the course, so I wish there were a bit less, but that’s just my personal opinion. Though it did make the race feel like it went by fast. There was a volunteer at a corner that reminded runners to look up to have a perfect view of the Statue of Liberty- that was amazing! Water stations were fine to me, I always wait to the end of the station to get water but I think one water station did not have water at the first table so runners were confused. Runners, just wait for the last table, it’s always less crowded!
One thing that I was really bummed about was the Expo. It was super crowded in a small conference room in the Westin Hotel. I was really hoping to spend more time there, but I got my bib are zipped out because it was overly crowded.
There was a lot of notifications leading up to the process so it was great to plan for. I stayed at the Sonesta and it was great distances from everything for race day.
Race swag was cool!
