If you are looking for a “jump start your year” race, Brazen Coyote HIlls is a great one. The course is interesting enough but not too difficult if you are just getting back to post-holiday fitness.. nice rolling hills with SF Bay views. Expect a bit of mud if it’s been raining but not too bad. and of course the great post-race goodies that Brazen is known for– Its-It’s ice cream, coffee, lots of snacks and really nice looking race technical T-shirts!

If you want to run through the holidays, you need to do the Brazen New Years Duo.. the almost NYE race and the New Year’s day race.. both at Lake Chabot, near Hayward, CA. beautiful trail run and amazing swag– cute shirts, great food, coffee and seriously bling worthy double-medal.. super fun!

For the last several years, I’ve run the Brazen New Year’s Day 5k. Brazen puts on such a fun race that it’s the only way I’ll get out of bed on New Year’s morning after our annual New Year’s eve poker party and very late night and brave the cold to sweat out the not so healthy drinks and food from the night before and it’s worth it. Lake Chabot is gorgeous and the treats at the finish line are outstanding including pie, ice cream, chips, fruit (have to have something healthy) donuts, and coffee.. my time is always slow but I enjoy the experience and do feel better for the rest of the day, thank you Brazen!

Every year I try to do the two Brazen races that book-end New Years. They put on an “almost New Year’s Eve” run the Saturday before and then a NYD run. For the almost New Year’s Eve run, since I don’t have a huge New Year’s party the night before, I tackle the more challenging of the races– the 10k rather than the 5k. The 10k has one very large hill which definitely tests my fitness level. Once again, Brazen didn’t disappoint… great hill, great race, great food, great swag… all the best!
