The course is a mixture of road, paved path, and gravel trail. The trail portions had quite a few nice views of the ocean with surf hitting rock outcroppings. The entire course is undulating with 1280 feet of elevation gain (and loss since it is effectively a loop). The hills and the trail made it a slow race for me.

The race website said a few things which were wrong. It said we would need our own cups, but the water and gatorade on the course was handed out in cups and there were cups afterward for all of the post race snacks. They also said that we would need our own plates for post race food, but paper plates were provided. The posted schedule said awards would be at 1pm, but they were done at noon.

There were a few other organizational things which were less than optimal. There was not a lot of parking; I guess most runners were staying within walking distance. It was projected to rain on race morning, but wearing extra clothing for the rain was a problem since they didn’t seem to have thought about bag drop.

The race has a new course. At least half is farm land before getting to the shore. I don’t know if it even reaches Malibu. There aren’t enough port-a-potties at the start; parking at the start took a long time. The only way back from the finish are race shuttles; I waited over an hour for one. Part of the wait is on line right in front of the music stage blasting music at unhealthy levels. No extra sway; post-race food is minimal and hard to find. Very disappointing.
