This was the first Run the Rainbow for Children’s of Mississippi race, and I think that the organizers did a fantastic job preparing for the race. The course went through a lot of the Belhaven and downtown areas of Jackson as well as the campus of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. For those unfamiliar with the Belhaven area of Jackson, be prepared for hills. Overall, this was a great race, and I look forward to seeing it expand in the coming years with the addition of a marathon as well.

This was my first marathon, and I really enjoyed it! The expo, start, and finish were all well organized. There were plenty of aid stations well equipped with Gatorade or water throughout the course. The first ~9 miles were run with the half marathon participants before we split off. Crowd support waned a bit after we split, but it was pretty strong overall. The toughest part for me was a 3mi double loop in Overton Park. It was more of a mental struggle than a physical struggle, but I would recommend that you be prepared for that.

Overall, this was a great race for a great cause! Be prepared to get a bit teary eyed throughout the race.

This race was larger than I expected it to be, and production did staggered starts after the initial countdown. Walkers and 5K runners were on the course before the faster pace groups for the half marathon, which made for a lot of annoying dodging of people.

Aid stations were great and well volunteered. They had water and Gatorade. After the race, there was a little bit of variety for snacks, but mainly a banana and granola bars. Overall, it was fun! I’m glad I ran this race.

The Madison Station Half Marathon was a great, local race! The route was challenging, with rolling hills throughout, and while there isn’t much scenery in Mississippi, there was lots of long stretches along the Natchez Trace and Historic Downtown Madison. Crowd support along the route was low, but there was a nice after party that made up for it!

I live in the area currently, and this course was mostly on the trail that I run 3-4 times a week. While it’s a great trail, it is a bit hilly at parts, so be prepared for that.

I think overall, this was a decent race. It was part of a larger weekend of events with a 5K, fun run, and cycling events. The half marathon had 80 participants, and there really was no crowd support along the course.

There were a few places along the course where people got confused about where we were supposed to go. Since there were so few runners, sometimes you’d reach a turn and be alone and get confused. The course was slightly under 13.1 for me, so I ran a half loop around the park to finish it out.

I was nervous going into this race because the forecast predicted thunderstorms, but thankfully it only rained for ~30 seconds total!

The course was a fairly scenic loop through downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock. There were many cute streets and parks that we ran by with lots of art.

The crowd support was incredible! There were tons of people lining the streets for nearly the whole race, and that really helped with motivation.

The race expo was fairly good, and the post race activities were nice as well (although they were all indoors in the convention center).

Also, as all the other reviews say, this medal is HUGE — even for the half marathon! My first response when the volunteer put it around my neck was, “Wow! This is heavy!”

I highly recommend running in Little Rock, and I’ll definitely go back some day.

This year featured a new course that went through the Belhaven and Fondren neighborhoods in Jackson! This new course meant that runners had to run up/down numerous hills in those neighborhoods, but they weren’t too bad if you just pushed through!

Packet pick up wasn’t very organized. There really wasn’t any signage for where runners should go, and I was very confused. Also, the post-race food options were very limited.

Lastly, when I finished my watch recorded 12.8 miles instead of 13.1. I kept running around the Capitol grounds to finish the mileage on my watch, but I hope it was a technical issue with my watch and not an issue with the course.

The Louisiana Half Marathon was pretty great! The Expo was good with lots of vendors. The morning of the race, it was very cold (~34°F, but with the wind it felt much colder). The course was mostly flat, but there were a few long inclines that came out of nowhere. There were lots of locals on the course cheering, even some with mimosas and beer for runners.

After the race, there was hot gumbo and jambalaya (great for warming up after such a cold run). There was also beer and protein shakes. I got a special medal for running the Mississippi Gulf Coast Half Marathon as well, thereby completing the Beach to Bayou Challenge.

This was my second half marathon, and it was a great race! The first ~11 miles were completely flat as we ran along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. At mile ~12, we went up an exit ramp, which was pretty tough after so many miles on flat ground.

I felt like the race was more mentally taxing than physically because from the start line you can see the Beau Rivage (which is at the finish line). It seemed at times like the end was never getting any closer.

We finished inside MGM Park, home of a minor league baseball team, with lots of choices for food/drink and plenty of spectators.

Overall, this was a fun race and a great place to set a new PB!

This was my first half marathon, and I was very excited to run it in Jackson! Overall, I thought the race was good, but there are definitely areas for improvement. Lots of the route was down and back, with many U-turns along the way. Also, the 5K and 10K runners turned off at different points, and signage wasn’t always large enough/clear about who should turn where. At one point, a large group of runners came onto the route from a side street and asked me where to go for the half/full. They’d obviously missed a turn and gone off course. There were some long hills, but they weren’t too steep. Altogether, I’m glad I did this race, and I’ll definitely check it out again in the future.
