You can tell a lot about a race organization when the weather is bad. The good races, adapt, the bad race directors blame everyone else. The Lost Dutchman, fortunately falls under the good race banner. Instead of the usual dry sunny day for this race, it was wet and cold. So, since they could not have mats and fires to wait for the start, they left the buses at the start for people to stay in. The volunteers were amazing. The course is very scenic. The bacon and donut stop was well received. In fact, the only thing anyone could say is a negative about this race is a lack of spectators … which does not really bother me since I love running with my fellow runners. Loved the “wall” at mile 24. Highly recommend the race.

The good: the volunteers, the shirt, the overall organization of the race, free pictures to download, and 12 miles of the course. The bad: water the color of mud and the rest of the course. Would I run this race again with this course again, probably not. Change the course to remove all of the miles on the highway and use bottled water instead of Mississippi water, definitely.

This is true single track running … only without a lot of pain and agony of falling on rocks or other impediments. This has what must be the best trail surface I have run on, either hard pack sand or soft pine/leaf covered. Minimal rocks, but does have roots … which against the white sand was usually easy to see. The RD for the race is awesome. This is a true runners race. Despite thunder, lightning and heavy downpours, Chris Nicholas, managed to put on a safe and fun event. The volunteers were unbelievable, cheering on each runner as they came into the aid station, providing lots of food with it being provided in eatable portions. And, the medals, post race party and general overall goodies were awesome. Really love the sweatshirt and the shirt. The only negative on the entire race is that the maps are wrong and it caused confusion coming into the finish since most of our Garmins are wrong because of the loss of GPS signal.

Volunteers on this course more than made up for any desires for spectators. In other words they were awesome. The beer and bacon stop was very needed. Race organization was great, course is good (but with 2 out and backs pretty much along the same route not 5 star). Beer at the finish was plentiful. Food at the end was non-existent and this is the one reason I would not rate this as 5 stars. Given that I was middle of the pack for women finishers, the fact that the only food left when I finished was mostly green oranges and chocolate milk is a big negative. Giving me a bag prior to the food was great, but without anything to put in it was less than optimal.
