This race is one of the best organized races that I have ever run. Not only do they offer the early start for those of us needing more time but everything else is so well organized.

The organizers do a great job. Everything from the expo to the finish line to the road closures this is so well organized.

The expo is smaller than others I’ve attended. But the smaller expo was nice. They offered massages and different products to try.

The whole race weekend seemed well planned. Road closures were easy to navigate around and it was fun for me to watch the Saturday races.

The swag was nice the shirt is a technical shirt. The personalized bibs are great and if course the medal is amazing!!

The communities come out to support everyone. There were girl scouts with cookies, grilled pineapple, church handed out communion, and even a community had a whole star wars theme.

There are a few rough hills around mile 15 and again at 25 but you can do it just keep moving! But compared to other races the hills are not at all bad.

Definitely a great race for anyone wanting to do a marathon! I chose right for my first marathon!

Pittsburgh is my home race and while it is fun to run, the last two years it hasn’t changed, so for me, it is once you have done it, unless you want to beat your time from a previous year, it isn’t a race I would want to do year after year.

It is cool to see a lot of the city and the bridges and everything though. That is the one great part of running Pittsburgh, is seeing all the buildings of downtown Pittsburgh and then being able to run the bridges and the different communities.

There is a ton of crowd support along the course handing out drinks, gels, whatever they can find really. So that is always nice.

I did the Challenge in 2019, 5K on Saturday and then the half on Sunday. And what I was a bit let down by was the medal for both races was exactly the same. To me they could have added some differences between them, but still nice to complete a challenge.

I will say if you are a back of the pack runner, Pittsburgh unfortunately may be a bit of a let down for you because what I have noticed is they tend to tear down the aid stations before all the runners have come through. But as long as you have your own fluid/water/gels you should be fine. I did notice the photographers were not as easy to find when your near the back of the pack. I don’ know if they assume since most people have gone past that those in the back don’t want pictures, but just be warned you may not have as many as some of the front runners.

Yes, Pittsburgh also has a lot of hills and bridges and it is a challenging course to take on but as long as you train appropriately, then you should be fine. Love my local race!

I did the 10 miler and while the swag is nice for the race I do not know if I would do it again.

Being an admitted back of the pack runner I was surprised to see them tearing down tables before all athletes had come through. I know there were people behind me and they were already taking things down.

Pittsburgh has hills and it would be best to train with them if at all possible. The first hill coming out of station square is a rough way to start but again its Pittsburgh we have hills.

Just be aware if you are on the slower pace that you may need to carry your own water and don’t be dependent on the tables being open and staffed during the later portions of the race.

The zip up technical jacket is nice and so was the medal plus running across the bridges are awesome.

I loved the Hershey Half Marathon. It was a super fun race to do in a great location. The medal was awesome, a giant kit kat. I believe all of their medals tend to be some type of Hershey candy.

The course is challenging with lots of hills, and some farm country, so there isn’t a whole lot to see. But in the beginning stages running through the park with only the other runners besides you is a super cool site to see.

The long sleeve technical shirt was nice to because you can use it around the house or on those fall training run days. Also you got 2 tickets to Hershey park in the Dark. My only recommendation for that would be if your local don’t go the day before, the park will be incredibly crowded.

It was nice to run past the Hershey School kids because despite it being super cold and windy they were out cheering you on and it gave you that extra boost you needed on a day where they weather was not very cooperative.

I would absolutely run Hershey again!

This was my first half marathon and it was a good one. The first nice piece was the parking, it was super easy to get around and it was well managed on where to park and where the starting line was. The swag was nice, it includes shorts and post race food.

This particular year it was really cold, but all the runners on the course would alert runners behind them to ice or other potential hazards.

The course around North park is really pretty. Running around the lake and seeing people just out for a morning walk/run/bike was really cool. There is a lot of rolling hills but again its in Pittsburgh so you always are going to have hills.

A nice course, a great big medal, easy packet pick ups. Would absolutely recommend this race for people looking for a warm up to the Pittsburgh races in May.
