Where there were crowds, they were lively and engaging. The scenery outside the city center, especially along the river, was picturesque.
The surface will change 3 times: asphalt, concrete, and another variety along the river that really is a combination of the two.
Course is designed to be fast the last 10 miles–take advantage of this–especially the last .5 mile.

If geography allowed, I would run this race every year. It really is a gem, hidden in plain sight, to be experienced. The course is fast, yes, but the terrain changes provide the challenge you’re looking for. If there is such a thing as an “ideal” race, this one qualifies.
This one should be on everyone’s bucket list.
