This is a great, small marathon. The hotel affiliated with the race hosted a small expo which was nice. The bus to the start picked us up at the hotel too. Course is pretty and all volunteers at the water stops were friendly. Volunteers also kept driving up next to me to make sure all was good which was nice. Weather ended up being great, thankfully! Only two cons. 1) Bus leaves at 4 AM to get to start so we were there an hour and 15 minutes early. Could have bus leave later. 2) Medal was just ok. Overall though, would definitely recommend this race.

I’ve run a lot of races in other states and this one is top notch. You can’t beat the Expo, SWAG, or crowd support. The weather was the craziest I have ever run a race in, but that didn’t deter volunteers and spectators. Be prepared for hills during the first 10k, but then enjoy the downhills of the second part. Definitely suggest this race!

If you’re looking for a small, well-run, no frills race, this is for you. The race is called the Cheap Marathon so you don’t get a medal and you pay extra for a shirt, but that was fine with me. They have a staggered start so when it’s your turn, your name, city, and state is displayed on a screen! Nice touch! Course is nice and flat with one hill at mile 13.5/25.5. Not a ton of crowd support, but the scenery is beautiful. Weather was great and I got my first BQ! I’m not big on food after I run, but they did offer a bottled smoothie (along with other items I passed on) which was nice. I highly recommend this race!

I love smaller races. The “expo” was just packet pickup which is fine with me. They gave out frames and shirts. Love my shirt by the way. Parking was easy for race day and a short walk to the start. Plenty of port-o-potties which is always a plus. Race started on time and you could feel the positive energy. I ran the 3:35 pacer for half the race and he was fantastic. A few miles of the course was on a road that had the top scraped off and that was uneven. Not the race peoples fault, but still needs to be noted. Parts of the course were pretty, while others were pretty mundane. Aide stations were frequent and EVERYONE was so friendly!!!! Medals and music at the finish were nice. I would highly suggest this race!

There was no way to get my packet aka my bib the day before the race as they only offered pickup in the middle of the week. I don’t live in Idaho, but luckily had a former friend in the area and she picked it up so I avoided the massive line on race day. Weather was terrible with rain and high winds, but I found a couple friendly people during the race and we worked together. Course was pretty, but mile markers and turns were not clear. One of the friends I had made was a local so I was able to keep him in sight to follow. Lots of aide stations were empty and no Gu was given on the course. Luckily I was prepared. I did get to see my family 3 times on the course which was awesome. At the finish my new friend was the one to tell me that shirts were going to be mailed out. After the race I found out I won my age group and was so excited. It took 6 weeks and multiple emails to receive my shirt and age group award…which was a clear bottle with a sticker slapped on it that made it seem like I won the entire race. I was super bummed because I have never won my age group. Post race I found out via Facebook that tons of people got lost, ran longer distances, and didn’t carry water/gu and were on the course without. Because of the craziness, directors have stated they will now hire a “running committee” and everyone who ran in 2021 gets a free entry to their 2022 race. This race has great potential because the course I beautiful, but they need major help before I could suggest this race to others.

I ran this race because it was also the Olympic Marathon trials the day before. I was also coming back from an injury and had no goal time besides finishing. Expo was decent and shirts were very soft. Course was hilly, but plenty of aide stations. Nice “jackets” after the race to keep me warm. Course finished in Olympic Park which was cool too.

While I didn’t achieve what I went to the race for, it was still a great race. They made sure everyone was safe and started us 1 at a time. We were able to have our own water bottles at a table so you didn’t have to carry your gear. Medals and shirts were great too. I will be back!

This was a “just for fun” marathon for me, and I have to say, it ended up being one of my favorites! The expo was small, but everyone was friendly and they did have several booths handing out things. On race morning, I got there over an hour early. This is a smaller race (less than 600 marathon participants) so I feel I could have been dropped off even later. While waiting, everyone was friendly and the DJ was playing music and having people come up and say where they were from or giving shoutouts. The hour went by quickly.

Race started on time and the first few miles were a bit congested, but that is normal. Around mile 4-5 we started running on gravel. I knew we would be doing this, but it took some getting used to. At mile 6.5 I saw a BEAR! He was merely crossing a side road, but what a rush! Race officials were there so I felt safe. The gravel continued for a long time until we reached the 2 miles of trail running. It was a single track, but no one was trying to get by and everyone was relaxed. I think around mile 15 we ended up back on the roads. There were plenty of water stops throughout and I felt that the amount of shade kept us cool as the sun was in full force so kudos to the race director for the route. The last 6 miles had the most crowd support as it was on a paved bike trail. Lots of friendly faces giving support. The last .3 miles are up hill and I’m not talking about a little hill. It was pretty steep so it took a good push to get up it. The final stretch to the finish is on grass, which I didn’t like as it was very uneven. Post race was amazing. So much food! They even had gluten free bread which meant a lot to me! Watermelon, oranges, grilled cheese, cinnamon bread with butter, and cookies! And everyone could eat it! Way to go! You also collected your shirt at this time and I really like the long sleeve.

I highly recommend this race. Organized and a beautiful route!

The good: I liked the long sleeve, thin shirt. The expo was smaller, but in a really cool building. There were plenty of water stops on the course and I enjoyed running on the boardwalk.

The not so good: Parking was a nightmare. They had all of use enter through one entrance. What GPS said would be an 8 minute drive turned into an hour drive and I had to do some fancy driving to do that. Barely made it to the start because of parking and port a potty stop and then the race started 10-15 minutes late. Nerves were a little on edge at the start.

Overall though I enjoyed the race. I ran my 2nd best time and was able to immerse myself in the surroundings.

The expo was a good size and easy enough to pick up my bib. Race morning was a bit hectic as I took a shuttle bus to the start; however, the driver took us to the wrong place. Luckily the mistake was caught early enough so off to the real start we went. They allowed us to stay on the bus for as long as we wanted as it was really cold outside to just stand.
The actual race was just ok. Plenty of fluid stations and good crowd support; however, this race is advertised as net downhill. That may be the case, but be prepared for hills. It was constant up and down the entire race and my calves were on fire by the end. The course itself was pretty boring. I just remember seeing a lot of dogs dressed up for Christmas which made me smile. 🙂 After race was nice…enough food and gear pickup was easy. I did PR which was amazing and the weather was spot on; however, this isn’t a race I would choose to repeat.
