I wasn’t ready for the sandy road we ran on. Some places (uphill) the sand was pretty deep, like running on the beach. I ran out of energy by mile 18 but the beauty of the course more than made up for the difficulty. Great race organizers. Absolutely fantastic experience.

There is a time limit for this marathon (6 or 6.5 hrs). You’re placed in a corral based on projected finish time, however, you can change corrals at the Expo. Slower runners can gain 2+ hrs by moving up a few corrals. Scenery in this marathon is fantastic. Aid stations have run out of water, bring your own bottle for refilling from hoses.

Extremely well-organized race event. Huge Expo (easy to get lost in it). Security is tight at the start. ***Long walk from finish line to post-race area/family reunion site*** Plenty of water/aid stations along course. Race winds past many historic/scenic sites. Course is flat with lots of spectators.

Race expo was fantastic…many great vendors. I did the Houston Double Double, lots of fun. Getting in/out of the city on race morning was not a problem but I would recommend out-of-towners to stay near the race start for convenience. Well organized. Scenery just OK, it’s a city marathon
