This was my first time running the Publix half marathon. The race had good swag and was well organized for the most part, but I have 2 big gripes. One is the bathrooms. There was no one cleaning the porta potties so there was bodily fluids everywhere. Also, on the course, the bathrooms weren’t where the map said which was inconvenient. Then, the course started closing down 15 minutes before the cutoff time. They removed the cones and the people leading you through the course were gone so I ended up getting turned around before the finish. This was also one of the hardest courses I have ever run. But if you can run this one, you can run any course. Overall, with better bathrooms and people who stay at their place to direct to the finish line it would be a 5 star race.

The race started out okay. But I immediately noticed lack of planning. The race starts on the road and they didn’t close the road on the other side which was concerning because it took place on a winding road. Some of the faster runners were coming back as we were running forward and many of them had to kind of squeeze because there was not enough space for all of us.
There was also a lack of porta potties on this race. So if you had to go to the bathroom, you had one porta potties for 5 miles.
Things got genuinely dangerous though at the 5 mile point. It began to torentially downpour to the point that it was raining sideways. The sky cracked open with thunder and lightning. They did not mention that we had to go through a woodsy unpaved area. It was flooded and there were NO SIGNS telling you to go right or left only random strings on trees that we didn’t even know if they had to do with the race. I got so lost. Thankfully, I had a random stranger running with me to figure it out but I felt very unsafe. As a single woman, this part of the race was very precarious for me.
Overall, this race was very poorly planned and I would not recommend running it unless you have a partner. Also, check the weather! Because it has had torrential downpour 2 years in a row and they do not stop the rain for lightning.

Running the peachtree road race has become my yearly tradition. There is so much to love about this race. It takes place in the scenic downtown atlanta area so as you run there is so much to look at. There are aid stations and porta potties everywhere. But the best thing is the crowd support. As you are running people on the sidelines are playing music and giving jello shots and drinks. The course is medium difficult, it has 2 big hills that you must know about but besides that it is fun to run with long hills that are great to run down. The biggest thing to know about Peachtree, however, is that it can be a lot to get there in the morning. I recommend riding marta or staying downtown as parking closes very early in the morning. The race has “waves” which you are put in based on your submitted time. If you want to avoid the heat, please become an Atlanta Track club member and make sure you submit a time because this race has been black flagged for the heat. Each year, I now look forward to the 4th of July because it truly is a party 🙂
