The idea sounds great: Run 10 miles with RaceJoy tracking, get a box of Godiva and some hot chocolate at the finish line. What could be bad, right? Before you sign up in 2018, be warned:
There was no RaceJoy tracking even though it was advertised.
Several miles of the race take place on brick side streets. If you have depth perception problems, are not used to looking down frequently at the uneven running surface, or are running with a baby carriage, this may not be the race for you. The type road surface was not disclosed before the run.
The 10 mile track is not well marked, so if there are no other runners in front of you, at times you have to guess which direction to go.
The race did not start on time.
The DJ was not doin’ his thing pre-race, so the momentum was not as high as it could have been. After the race, the music the DJ was playing was fairly quiet, but at least it was being played.
The hot chocolate at the end of the race was chocolate powder and water. I don’t mean the type of hot chocolate mix that is made with water instead of milk, I mean chocolate powder and water. It was awful.
Runners who finished late did not get their promised Godiva chocolates.
THERE WAS NO CLOCK at the finish line. NO CLOCK. I had to wait three days until the results were posted on the website to see my time.
I wrote an email to the course organizers and a woman responded telling me how much money they spent on port-a-potties and other rambling that did not address any of my questions/concerns/suggestions for future Chocolate Races. Her solution for me was that I did not have to attend any more Chocolate Races in the future. It was a nasty, mean response.
you may want to think twice before signing up for the 2018 race if it is being presented by the same company as the 2017 race. Hopefully it will be better organized, truthfully advertised, and the runners will receive all the benefits of the race as promised.
