I’ve ran almost 75 half marathons. The Akron Marathon is hands down the most organized race I’ve ever ran. Everything from packet pickup, the race itself and post race activities are so well done. The race course was wonderful this year. Starting at Stan Hewitt was a real treat. I was a little skeptical of have to take a shuttle to the start line, as I’ve had terrible experiences in the past. Even though the line for the bus was extremely long in the morning, they had so many buses, that the wait was no longer than ten minutes. I was so impressed! I loved the new, updated course through West Akron. I myself had a rough go, as I was terribly sick and overly tired and I got a pretty poor finishing time, but I still thouroughly enjoyed myself!

I’ve ran this race twice and I really love it. It’s one of my favorites. It’s definitely a smaller race, and not much crowd support, but that doesn’t bother me. The course is well supported by water stations and running a few areas past Lake Erie are definitely beautiful. The medals are so fun and walking around the beach afterwards is a tradition. This is definitely a fast, PR course.

I’ve ran this race all 4 years it’s been running. This year, since the HOF is under construction, they had to do things a little different. I would NOT look into the negative reviews because of this reason! The past years that it finished at the HOF were great!! And it will be awesome once construction is done!
*Finishers medal is always awesome!
*Loved the shirts – it fit just fine. I’m a medium and it fit normal to me.
*I had no issues with the water stops, although – I didn’t run the full and it was incredibly hot out, so I’m sure resources were being used more than average.
*I switched from the full to the half and wasn’t charged a fee – awesome!! And easy!
*Awesome after party!

Cons-
*Parking was a little bit of a wreck, hopefully this will be ironed out next year.
*Not a whole lot of social media build up in the days before the race and on race day. I know they are incredibly busy, but it’s fun to see posts of the expo or race morning set up. It builds up excitement.

I love this race, though and will continue to be back every year.
