My husband and I ran this race solely for the swag – we love Yosemite and loved the idea of enjoying a forest run with a great medal/shirt. The race was as expected, beautiful run through the forest. Elevation ended up being tough for me (I live at sea level) but I was never out of breath on the 5-6 miles of downhill mid-course. We didn’t go into the race to PR, we spent the prior 3 days doing challenging hikes in Yosemite Valley to enjoy the vacation portion of our trip, so we went into it with tired legs and a very relaxed attitude. We loved the casual start – if you weren’t racing to place you basically can just start once you hop off the shuttle bus and are ready to go.
No need to wait for a certain heat or time or stand (and freeze!) in a corral.
Very well orchestrated event, from the bib pick up/expo to the shuttle organization – considering 3,000 runners descended on a town with a population of 5,000. The only exception being a number of the shuttle bus drivers got lost and missed the turn on the way back to town after the event, for us that meant a 20 minute delay as there is no where for a charter bus to turn around on tiny mountain roads. This was the 8th year VR has had the race at this location and they seem to have most of the kinks worked out.
