I opted to run this as a birthday present to myself. The course was spectacular – going through downtown and then out and back along the water.

Unfortunately as someone who had been training in the northeast – I was so unprepared for the humidity. As much as I would like to blame the organizers for that 🙂 – I turned in my worst performance ever in a half.

However – my own mistakes aside – the production was so smooth – lots of e-mails and instagram postings keeping us informed; the registration was smooth and fast. My only complaint (and this is personal preference) was that I wasn’t keen on the shirt design. This – was completely mitigated by the sheer amount of free beer at the end of the race!

I highly recommend this race – Key West is a destination that was great.

Let me start out – the people of Nashville are great and friendly. However during the second half of this race – it was a virtual ghost town in terms of spectators as we wound past (great) bandstands through an empty office park and then down through a dodgy section close to the stadium and out and back through a pretty park. For the first half – winding through historic neighborhoods – it was awesome.

The course was a lot hillier than I expected – especially coming out of the park at around mile 23.

The expo was pretty large and had a lot of freebies and other giveaways. Everything was very well organized – check-in was a snap.

The party at the end was nice – great food and drink options. The medal was small but cool (it lit up!). The shirt was nice as well.

I would definitely do another RnR event – but probably the half only.

I was leery about running a double loop race – but my friends all said ‘you’ll love it.’ And I did. Some of the loop was on a main road without scenery – but the runs along the river more than made up for it.
The best part were the volunteers at the aid stations – talk about infectious energy. A local guy (I wish I knew who it was!) put out bottles of water on his lawn – and I took advantage of that twice – so thank you to my anonymous helper!!
