Each year, the medal is beautiful, colored, with moving parts, and unique. The course is also unique: from the cute small ‘downtown’ of Elizabeth City, you run on the Coast Guards base (sighting several types of planes, helicopters, boats), even on the actual airplane airway, then through beautiful waterfront neighborhoods, around a blimp/balloon facility (you may spot donkeys, horses and more farm animals near there) then course returns to the start area via country roads and waterfront on the CG base. All course is pancake flat, quiet with great and enthusiastic volunteers at well stocked aid stations.
Race offers many challenge combinations (with great extra swag) within the weekend, and in coordination with other races (Armed Forces Series Challenge : Air Force marathon, Marine Corps Marathon, Space Force 10 Miler). Also offers several Virtual races options.
For 50 Staters: even thought this race has changed dates/day from March to April, each date you may combine it for a double weekend with either Charlottesville (VA), or with One City Newport News (VA), or even Myrtle Beach (SC)
