The fun begins when going to the start line with the ski lift, then it is uphill the first 3 miles, and from here, it’s mostly downhill for about 8 miles with ups and downs the last two miles. I strongly recommend to run this race during the night to stargaze and see the Milky Way.

Very steep the first 3 miles and then ups and downs after the first aid station until reaching Mt. Lewis where north end of GSL can be seen. Then it’s back to the same first aid station and then it is a long downhill towards Eden. Some ups and downs the last 3 miles.

This is a wonderful course around Antelope Island with great views of the Great Salt Lake. Most of the elevation gain is within the first 15 miles. Some hills were -at least for me- challenging. 2nd half of the trail is basically flat. We run through a herd of bison -’twas fun-! Aid stations are well supplied and at the end you’ll be rewarded with cold beer and a bowl of delicious chili.

Running at night was wonderful. If you want to avoid a running crowd, better start between 1am and 3am as I did. We were lucky that there was enough moonlight shining on the path. There are a couple of steep hills and running along the Gooseberry trail was amazing and fun -I’d return to run during daylights-. However, headlamps are necessary don’t underestimate the darkness.
