We had an amazing time completing this event. The concept is that you clean up as you go, take in tourist experiences and GO SLOW so that you can enjoy it.
The main rules were that you must take public transport to the event and if you complete the marathon in less than 5 hours, you’re disqualified.

We started with rubbish bags so we could clean up any trash along the course. This wasn’t too onerous as Japanese are typically very tidy people.

First stop was to tour an ancient temple at our own leisure. We then passed through a bamboo forest and on to a market garden with a huge cherry blossom tree in full bloom with the locals walking miles to get a photo in front of it. We also got to try cherry blossom tea here which was unique and quite nice.

Our next stop was at a festival at a retirement home where we were the guests of honor. We started with a soothing foot spa with runners from all over the world. Then on to the festival with non stop traditional singing, music and dance acts. There were also multiple food and drink vendors there with everything free for the runners. After over an hour enjoying the festival, we thought we should head of and finish our run.

We had such a great time that we plan to head back next year to do the full marathon as the extra distance includes a visit to a giant tulip farm.

The organiser also has plans to add a 2nd event in Osaka the week prior so that you can complete both events and be a tourist in between.
