While most runners may think of Iowa as flat, this course is anything but! The first half is rolling hills, a few of them you wonder if you’re ever going to make it up as they are long and difficult! Every year I think this could be the race to qualify for Boston, but I always forget that those first 13 miles or so with the Rollinghills will get me! The last half of the race is extremely beautiful and this race is highly organized, I wish most races were like this! I have run New York, Berlin, and Chicago, and this race fits right behind New York as one of the best marathons I have ever run in terms of race quality. If you are in the Midwest and you don’t attend this marathon, you are missing out. There are plenty of big cities within four hours, and I would put this marathon against any of them as one of the best.
