First half is not an easy run. Some longish uphills, and Sunday they were straight into a strong wind. Long down hill after half, but I witnessed many runners burn out on that portion, running much faster than even a downhill adjusted pace, only to find them walking after 30k.
Truly enjoyed the 2k of trail around 28k. Somehow that provided a tremendous change of scenery and feel, allowing to regroup for the last third of the race. ( 16, 16, 10 )
The bus transportation was extremely well organized and being able to stay in the school till the start was tremendous, especially given the rain.
I love the smaller crowds. This was my 9th marathon. I’ve run SWTM three times, Ottawa and Boston that had larger crowds. Smaller is definitely better. If you are looking to squeeze into a BQ, remember a big race will cost you 1/2 KM in distance. I already had a BQ for 2019, so I could run this one with no pressure. Nevertheless, I beat BQ by 15 minutes, and my PB by 14 seconds!! Only comment to improve a bit, an empty bag to put a T shirt in is not considered swag!

This was the inaugural year for this race. Run on a well known 200+ bike path in the Laurentians, north of Montreal. Once a railway path through the woods serving the north, now gravel packed; point to point race, with a total downhill. Beautiful scenery, narrow path, amazing feel to this race. It sold out quickly because of the limited numbers given the lack of space on the course.
Most beautiful race I have ever run. Organizers did an amazing job. my only recommendations to the race officials is more porta pottys along the way, ( saw men and women emerging from the woods on the sides of the trail ). Also, would be nice if the medals were different for the half and full.

By now you’ve read all about the conditions. Let me add a few of my learnings. 1) While tempted to go lighter, I ended up wearing a rainproof running jacket the entire race. I think keeping my core warm was key. 2) While like you, I have read ALL the advice on running Boston, last year I did not heed the ” go slow and save your quads at the start” advice. This year the first 10km were my slowest, and sure enough I felt strong through Newton until the end. 3) If you are a first timer, stop worrying about Heartbreak Hill. ( the other three that come before are worse 🙂 ) My legs are happy to shift to climbing and giving my quads a break. I felt stronger on the up hills than on the down hills from Newton to the finish. I’ve heard the same from many other runners. 13 minutes off my PB, but under BQ time, so I was happy with the result overall!!
