It’s a hilly course and prepare for some elevation gain. I really dislike the 3 out and backs you have to do in this course and they were long. Although race organizers provided information about where to park, some people still parked along a section of the course (on the side of the road) where runners were expected to run. This led to congestion where runners were forced into the road or into a single-file line. There was also a park of the road where there were no volunteers and runners had to cross a semi busy street. Runners were throwing GUs and trash on the ground— and there are water stations throughout, just disrespectful, please don’t do this.
Other than that, the organization was better this year in terms of packet pick up. Still wish there was early pick up, but the line wasn’t massive like the year before. Race started on time. Beautiful views and cool air when you’re running on the bridge. There was ice cream afterwards!

We did the half marathon relay as a repeat runner. The weather was amazing, so it added to the view. It was chilly, but you got to see the sunrise along the water. The course is flat besides a short uphill, and it can get narrow at times especially when you’re trying to pass other runners as well as avoiding other park goers. Course is clearly marked but can get confusing if you’re not paying attention to the signs that direct where you need to go depending on your distance. Highly recommend!

Orca half is Ocra Running’s namesake and it’s typically advertised as being one of the most beautiful flat race and sold out quickly—in fact, it’s so popular, this year they decided to have the race on both Saturday and Sunday.
However, upon race day, I encountered some elevation, so not as flat as they advertised. There are three out and backs, and typically these aren’t a problem, but the last out and back, you run pass the finish line for another 4 miles. The course wasn’t hard, but I know I mentally struggled running pass the finish line and was searching for the turn around point. They definitely could have done a better job with this. Parts of the race is pretty, the first 3ish miles you’re on an easy trail covered with trees, and the most you’re running through neighborhoods that’ll make you feel poor. Most likely won’t do this one again.

Second time doing this race and it’s still a great experience. Well organized, lots of volunteers, and a fun experience. You start from the ferry and run all over Bainbridge. It’s still very hilly and a very hard half, but it’s definitely an accomplishment. What comes up, must come down.

I absolutely love the concept of doing a half marathon relay and working together as a team! The route was beautiful, but rainy today. Easy to follow routes. First loop does have a small but steep hill, but what goes up must come down. Most of the run is pretty flat. This is a great fun race to do with a partner of any sort. Highly recommend.
