The Los Muertos 5K is an extraordinary event that I highly recommend for both seasoned runners and beginners alike. Held at the historic Placita Olvera in Downtown Los Angeles, this road race, expo, and Dia de los Muertos festival offers a unique and immersive experience. The start line and finish line festival are unlike anything you’ve ever seen, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with energy and excitement.
The race itself takes you on an exhilarating journey through the LA city streets. The course is an out-and-back route, offering a chance to soak in the iconic sights of the city. You’ll face a challenging incline as you cross over the LA river and the state park, pushing your limits and testing your endurance. Along the way, you’ll pass renowned establishments like Nick’s Diner and Philippe The Original, adding a touch of local flavor to the race.
Participants are rewarded with stylish t-shirts and medals, tangible symbols of their achievement. The race energy is palpable, with a mix of competitive runners and novices coming together to celebrate their love for running and community. It’s an excellent opportunity for personal growth and self-improvement, where you can push yourself beyond your limits and discover new strengths on a Fall morning in Los Angeles
Once the race is over, the festivities continue with plenty of brunch spots nearby. You can indulge in a well-deserved meal and revel in the sense of accomplishment that comes with completing the race. However, it’s worth noting that getting in and out of downtown can be challenging, so I recommend taking the train or parking at Union Station to ease the logistics.

Conquer the Bridge is an outstanding road race and festival that delivers an unforgettable experience. The waterfront startline sets the tone for a remarkable event, with easy access and ample street parking nearby. The prerace atmosphere is vibrant, and the event is reasonably priced given its magnitude. The presence of dedicated and focused runners enhances the overall atmosphere. The race itself presents a beautiful yet challenging open street course, with the highlight being the unique crossing of the Vincent Thomas Bridge. The Labor Day morning weather adds to the enjoyment. Collaborations with local businesses and attractions like the USS Iowa create a cool and engaging environment. Post race, there are plenty of brunch spots within walking distance. One area for improvement could be updating the logo and merchandise to match the race’s status as one of the area’s premier events.

The Bimbo Global Energy Race 10K in Downtown Los Angeles is an incredible event that deserves high praise. The start line at LA Live sets the tone for an awesome race experience right in the heart of Downtown. The open street course along Figueroa is cool and allows runners to soak in the vibrant atmosphere of the city. And here’s the best part: it’s free! Depending on when you sign up, the race entry can be complimentary, which is absolutely fantastic.
While street parking is available, finding a spot on race morning can be a bit challenging. However, once you hit the course, you’ll appreciate the easy route through downtown LA. The large number of participants creates a lively and energetic atmosphere, making the event even more enjoyable. And for those competitive spirits, there are some cool prizes for the top finishers.
What makes the Bimbo Global Energy Race 10K even more special is the fact that it’s a worldwide event. Being a part of something on such a global scale is truly remarkable and adds to the excitement.
To be fair, the course being an out and back can be a bit monotonous, and the crowd can get congested with walkers. It’s worth noting that this race is ideal for beginners and novices, but serious runners may not find it as challenging. However, considering it’s a free race, it’s hard to complain.
In conclusion, the Bimbo Global Energy Race 10K in Downtown Los Angeles is a must-attend event. The incredible start line, the cool street course, the complimentary entry, and the worldwide participation make it a race like no other. While there are some areas for improvement, the overall experience is undeniably positive. As an Ivy League athlete, Marine, and fitness influencer, I highly recommend this race to anyone looking for a fun and inclusive running event in the heart of LA.
