The race itself hasn’t changed much in the last 15 years. The first 6 miles are from downtown out to the Queen Mary and back and are the more scenic part of the course. The next three are on the most boring beachpath you’ll ever find. Even though it is next to the beach, it is always hot, downwind without a breeze and on hard as steel concrete. I don’t know why they don’t use the multipurpose path that has some cushioning. There is no shade on the beachpath and you have to keep looking down because it gets so crowded. The medals are always good and the shirts are always among my favorites. Parking was a mess and there was a lot of confusion about what lots would be open. The expo was small and outside likely due to covid. The port-a-potties on the ocean side of the starting corrals were out of toilet paper by 6:15. We asked some who was putting garbage bags in the trash containers and basically got a ‘not my job’ answer. Good thing i always bring TP with me. At the 6 mile mark when I came through again there was still no TP in them.

this race did not seem to be anywhere near what it was a few years back. fewer runners, smaller expo, cheap shirts were a few things to note. The course was changed two years ago and it is still flat and fast. the medals were outstanding. they need more water stations on course, particularly for slower runners and walkers and they need more feed stations as well–only one station giving out donut holes at mile 10 and stinger gels about a half mile longer. need that stuff earlier in the race

This race welcomes slower runners and walkers with a 6 hour time limit on the half marathon. Water stations are well stocked and did not run out of water even as the back of the pack got to them. Same to be said for the finish line. Lots of people in the 2:45-3:30 range to keep you company. Weather was nice this year as opposed to hot in years past
