This race is on hard packed sand from Morro Bay to Cayucos, CA. It's mostly flat and mostly dry, depending on the tide. You may get your feet week and … MORE
This race is on hard packed sand from Morro Bay to Cayucos, CA. It’s mostly flat and mostly dry, depending on the tide. You may get your feet week and you may have to scramble over some easy rock outcroppings. It slows you down for about 30 seconds. There are water stations along the way. There aren’t any porta-pottys due to the sensitivity of the area and nesting birds. It’s a 55 yo race and runs like a well oiled machine. Super casual, meant to be fun. I never miss it.

Well run race, great course, a lot of smooth dirt road, some street, a few yards of technical heads down running, one real hill, great volunteers, beautiful NP, plenty of local lodging. Use of Spark Challenge was a neat way to tour spots in the NP. Vacation Races knows what they are doing and do it well. Like the In n Out of races.

If you like downhill, this is a good race. VR knows how to host races, where they get stuck is counting on other entities, often shuttle buses. Not sure if this is in their control so I suggest runners look for VR races where you can park your own vehicle. Bass Lake is pretty, you see it the last couple of miles. There are a couple of waterfalls, too. They held their raffle when over a 1000 people hadn’t arrived at the start, not cool. Like I said VR knows how to host a race, but this one was a bit of a cluster.
