This race was incredible – so much so that I don’t know if I want to do another marathon because I don’t see how it could top this one. I’m a hometown Philadelphia runner, and this was my second marathon ever, first in Philly. The course is fantastic, taking you through the biggest sights in Philly from the Art Museum to the Ben Franklin Bridge to City Hall to the Zoo to the Please Touch Museum to Fairmount to Manayunk. There were a few uphill moments, but nothing close to Heartbreak Hill in Pittsburgh. I saw so many friends along the way and never went more than 2 miles without seeing someone I knew. Race hydration stations were perfect, and the out and back to Manayunk was beautiful (not killer like some people say). Overall 10/10 – not sure how else to improve.

Pittsburgh was my first ever marathon. I’m so happy I chose this race to kick off my marathon journey. Weather was perfect after a rain scare. The start line was easy to figure out. The course was pretty cool for the first 12 miles, then that hill hit. Nothing can really prepare you for that long of an uphill at the same time that the half marathoners bow out to their finish line. Crowd support was shockingly low at this critical stage of the race. Still, I was ready and finished it. The harder part was getting through miles 18-23. I ended up walking quite a bit and had some cramps. Crowd support was quite limited, which didn’t help. The downhill at 23 was lovely and then crowd support picks back up, but man it was a tough finish. Overall great race – just be ready for the tough 12-23 and you’ll be fine!
