For me this ranked in the middle of the Pinhoti 50k slam. It was not the fastest course of the three but it was also not the most difficult. Scenery was great. The first half was super fast, the second half very challenging. The course had very little rock but areas were very narrow making me slow just to ensure I stayed on the track. The steeper climbs and descents are in the last 12 miles. I would run it again.

For me, this was the fastest and most fun course of the Pinhoti 50k slam. It has plenty of elevation but the grade of most climbs and descents were runnable. There is a fair amount of rock but not as bad as Mt Cheaha. The trails were wide, even the single track portions. The last 5 miles are downhill so it’s a great opportunity to finish strong.

My first ultra but I trained with veteran runners. We were ready for mile 28 (climbing Cheaha). We weren’t ready for the technical, single track trail with multiple ascent descents for the first 18 miles. Section between AS2 and AS3 had several miles of loose rock. I spent too much effort trying to hold pace there. Be ready to slow down and stay cool during that section.
Race director, awesome. Volunteers, awesome. Transportation, easy. Fuel at the aid stations, awesome. Point to point through incredible scenery. When we finished my veteran runner friends said it was harder than they were expecting.

This was my first road Marathon and reviews lead me to this race. Great venue. Well organized. Super volunteers. I felt safe regarding traffic thanks to Huntsville police. Course description was rolling hills but I trained in a flat area and I felt like the hills in the race were mild. The hilliest spot is from space and rocket center back to downtown. Go run this race!
