Second time running Missoula and it did not disappoint. An extremely friendly and unique city with a lot of things to do. We stayed in the Holiday Inn downtown, which was convenient (within 10 minutes of walking) to hiking, food, the race expo, the busses and the finish line of the course. Unless you live in the area of have family, I would recommend being in the city center for your convenience.

Course is mostly flat with a monster hill at the halfway point, but after that it is smooth sailing and a PR is definitely possible. Expo was small but had some interesting offers, plenty of merchandise to commemorate the race. Beautiful views and incredible support from the community as there is no traditional crowds in the backroads of the mountains. Many sat in their driveways, offered drinks, and sprayed hoses once it got warm. Volunteers are incredible, and aid stations were functional and fast. Also VERY pace inclusive- a great first race for projected 5-7 hour marathoners. Like many others, the only complaint I can think of is the wait at the start, but I’d rather be there as opposed to being late.

Will likely be back next year, and the year after that. By far my favorite race I’ve run and I’d recommend to anyone as a summer destination marathon.

A fun last race of the year. Course is flat, and trail is manageable even for those with no experience (mostly packed gravel). Kind, accommodating race directors, a cute shirt and a great looking medal.

Biggest gripe is the out and back. It’s a very clear, narrow turnaround and as a slower runner it might be a mental battle seeing people coming from the other direction. However, they do try to make it fun with a runway of flags and a DJ who shouted much needed words of encouragement. Food can be included after if you buy a wristband, but the beach offers a good selection for post-race lunches. Probably wouldn’t run again unless I was already in the area but a chill, extremely well-run race nonetheless!
